The Training Programme

Training in Intensive Care is part of a Pan Deanery programme. We will work with to design an individual programme to suit your individual educational and training needs.

If you are a single stream trainee your programme will follow the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) single stream programme:

We aim for every trainee to work in at least two tertiary centres (Hull, Leeds or Sheffield).to maximise your training opportunities

If you are a dual trainee, you can train with any of the five accredited programmes. We can facilitate training from any programme. You can apply for your ICM post first, then apply for a second speciality or vice versa. Currently this can be done up to the end of ST5, however, you should check the FICM site for any changes.

Dual programmes are again designed around your training needs; we work closely with the local TPDs in the partner specialities to design a programme. The dual programmes are available to view on the FICM site:

We understand trainees will have anxieties about a large programme, but we can reassure you that we will work with you to design an excellent training scheme. Our aim is to deliver a high quality enjoyable scheme.

We work closely with the Regional Advisors in ICM to ensure this.
