The University of Leeds, in partnership with Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber has developed an exciting pathway of academic clinical training opportunities
Applications are now invited for an Academic Training Post in General Dental Practice. The post holders must be working in NHS General Dental Practice and demonstrate a strong interest in developing their research and academic skills. This new post has been created as part of the Health Education England (HEE) and the Schools of Dentistry in Leeds and Sheffield drive to develop academic training opportunities in general dental practice. It is designed to offers candidates a comprehensive experience of clinical academic dentistry working alongside internationally renowned clinicians and researchers.
We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic individuals with the potential to excel in both their clinical and academic training and who have the ambition to be the next generation of academic clinicians. The aim of the post is provide the successful applicant with both a post graduate certificate in Health Research methods as well as training and experience of working with an established research group within a dental school. At the end of the post, we anticipate the candidate would be in a suitable position to apply for either NIHR funded In-Practice Fellowship or an Academic Clinical Fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training 2019 – Immigration Requirements
You are eligible to be considered for Oral Surgery ACF training in Round 1 if:
• You are a UK or EEA national
• You are a non-UK or non-EEA national and your immigration status allows you to work without restriction in the UK. For example, if you have Tier 1 or dependent status, and no restriction against working as a doctor or dentist in training
• You are a non-UK or non-EEA national, you graduated from a UK medical or dental school, your immigration status currently entitles you to work in the Foundation Programme and here you would have previously been eligible for Tier 1 (PSW). You will need to apply for Tier 2 sponsorship, but you will be exempt from the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) in this instance.
Evidence of immigration status should normally consist of a biometric residence card, date stamped passport, and accompanying letter from the Home Office. Please visit their website for more information.

The deadline for submitting applications is 16:00 on 27th November 2018. After this time no applications will be accepted. There will be no exceptions to this deadline. You are advised to complete and submit your application ahead of the deadline to allow for any unforeseen problems.
Applicants for this post will be required to meet the relevant Clinical eligibility criteria for the appropriate specialty and level listed in the Person Specificaiton above AND the Academic eligibility criteria listed in the Job Description.
It is an applicant’s responsibility to demonstrate that they meet the eligibility criteria. All applications will be assessed against the eligibility criteria during longlisting. Any applications which do not meet the eligibility criteria will be longlisted out of the process and will not progress to the next stage.

This includes immigration status, evidence of achievement of core competencies or equivalent, and requisite length of time in training as per the national person specification. Applicants may still be withdrawn from the application process at any stage, including after the interviews have taken place, if the evidence pertaining to an eligibility criterion is found to be unsatisfactory by Health Education England working across Yorkshire and the Humber.
Shortlisting will take place following the completion of longlisting. Where possible we aim to give applicants at least one week's notice to attend an interview. However, unforseen delays in shortlisting mean this is not always possible.
Interview Dates and Venue
The interviews for this post will take place in June at Health Education England, Willow Terrace Road, University of Leeds, LS2 9JT. The date will be confirmed shortly

Documents Required at Interview
There are a number of documents that you are required to bring with you to interview.
Please bring the following original documents:
- Photo identification (passport) AND 1 COPY of photo/signature page
- Evidence of your current immigration status AND 1 COPY
- Evidence of your GDC registration and Licence to Practise AND 1 COPY
These documents will be checked against a checklist and the photocopies will be retained on your recruitment file. If you are appointed to a training post, these documents will be transferred to your trainee file.
The interviews will consist of a single panel interview with both academic and clinical components. The interview panel will be made up of academic and clinical panel members.
The panel may wish to review your portfolio so you should bring this with you to the interview.
Travel and Subsistence Expenses
Applicants attending interviews are entitled to a travel and subsistence allowance. A claim form can be downloaded from the section on the right of this page. You are advised to read the guidance document in full before incurring any expenses.
Claim forms must be received within three months of your interview date. Claim forms received after three months will not be processed. Receipts must be attached for all travel and subsistence claimed except mileage.

Receiving and Responding to Offers
If you are offered a post you will have 48 hours from the time of your offer, including weekends and bank holidays, to decide whether to accept, reject or hold it. You must respond to the offer through the UK Offers System. No other form of response will be accepted.
IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND TO YOUR OFFER WITHIN 48 HOURS, THE OFFER WILL EXPIRE AND THE POST WILL BE OFFERED TO ANOTHER APPLICANT. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY FURTHER OFFERS.
