Core Surgical Training
Core Surgical Training prepares trainees for higher specialty training. This two-year programme follows the ISCP curriculum which includes generic skills applicable to all surgeons and prepares trainees for their choice of specialty. The curriculum is currently different for any trainees that joined the programme before August 2017 (links to the curriculum documents are available on right side of page).
Trainees are required to apply for their choice of (uncoupled) higher surgical specialty training via a competitive application process part way-through their second year of Core Surgical Training.
Entry into Core Surgical Training is coordinated nationally by Health Education Kent Surrey and Sussex. View more information on how to apply.
Rotations are generally organised within one of the three localities (East, West or South) however trainees may rotate throughout the region if required by the Training Programme Directors.
Each programme provides twelve months within a specific subspecialty theme and twelve months within affiliated subspecialties.
Trainees rotate on the first Wednesday of August and the first Wednesday of February.
